Barr & Barr is proud to share that the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Building 55 Facade & Pavilion Project has been recognized in a Living Future case study highlighting its achievement of Zero Carbon Certification.
Serving as Construction Manager for both Building 55 and the adjacent Cecil & Ida Green Building 54 renovation, Barr & Barr supported MIT in advancing a shared vision for high-performance, resilient academic facilities.
The 20,800-SF Building 55 project introduced a two-story pavilion with a new atrium, classrooms, and collaborative spaces, all designed to support interdisciplinary climate research. Its innovative facade system integrates wood composite panels and glass elements that reflect and respond to the surrounding landscape. Immediately adjacent, the multi-phased renewal of the 20-story Green Building modernized critical infrastructure, including full façade restoration and major mechanical and electrical upgrades, while maintaining continuous operations.
Together, the addition and renovation reinforce MIT’s commitment to resilience, environmental responsibility, and shared academic space, exemplified by the project’s Zero Carbon Certification achievement.
